Upper Kananaskis Lake - Point Campground
DescriptionUpper Kananaskis Lake is a beautiful lake and the water is cold. It has a rocky shore line and it looks like the water levels have been quite high at some point in time. It is interesting that we just had flood conditions but it is still quite low, so not sure when the water levels would have ever been as high as the shore suggests.
It is possible to make an overnight trip of it by booking into Point Campground (backcountry campground). The only way into the campground is by hiking trail or by boat. The camp is probably 100 M up from the shore and the individual sites are spread out, which are large enough for 4 people The sleeping pads are 3.6 M square (12 ft) with fire pits and picnic tables, there is a wood supply with bear bins for food and an outhouse. There is no drinking water so you will want to haul in your water or filter the lake water. LevelBeginner - Intermediate (when there is a wind)
Distance5 Km from one end to the other
Duration:If you leave from the east boat launch, it could take anywhere from and 1 hour to 2 hours to reach the west shore or the campground depending on conditions and level of the paddler. If you leave from the North launch area travel time would be easily cut in half.
